Himeji Castle

is the best preserved medieval castle architecture in Japan completed by Ikeda Terumasa in 1613. The castle is well known for its remarkable strategic design as well as a beautiful monument to the glories of an earlier age. It functioned as a military command and a center for political life. This castle is also called as Shirasagijyo (White Heron Castle) owing to its elegant design with white outer walls.

The best season to visit Himeji castle is in early April when Sakura is in full bloom.

Like other Japanese historical monuments, Himeji Castle presents Japanese concept of harmony between human and nature. The basic elements of nature such as stones, wood, and water were transformed into a refined and elegant military structure. The name White Egret Castle comes from the fact that it appear as the bird ready for flight.
