Kiev is the capital of Ukraine with a population of 3 million people. It is the largest cultural, scientific and industrial center of Ukraine and the place of religious pilgrimage.

Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Europe, and its history goes back some 1,500 years. It is "the mother of all cities of Rus". Kiev is located on the Dnepr River and has beautiful architectural monuments that are recognized world treasures, landscapes, parks and gardens.

Khreschatyic street is the administrative and business center of the city, as well as a popular place for Kievans. On weekends the traffic is blocked on the street and visitors can walk in the center of the street.

Kiev's best season is spring. The chestnut trees in blossom are visiting card of the city.

The government buildings in Kiev are rather provincial in character and don't smack of imperialism. There are no buildings or squares that overwhelm people like in Moscow.

The Horodetsky Building

was built by an architect Horodetsky as a private residence in 1902.  The house walls and roof are decorated with sculptural ornaments of mythological and hunting themes.

Kiev is more quiet and modest than Moscow. The noise in the city is lower, and the buildings are smaller and less monumental.
